CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on form of bodywork that works to restore the flow of cerebrospinal fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. By tuning in to the body, restrictions are released and blockages are cleared in the connective tissue and fluid systems restoring balance, openness and optimal wellness. Additionally, this technique releases stored emotions and trauma that have been held in the tissues if the client’s body is willing and ready to process those for emotional healing and regulation. CST sessions are an optional addition to the program, both for child and parent.
HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?
By working with me, we will address:
1) NERVOUS SYSTEM – your child will learn how to identify what nervous system state he/she is in and identify and implement a choice of multiple tools and strategies to return to the calm, regulated state for increased focus, attention and ability to learn.
2) LIFESTYLE – suggestions and recommendations will be provided to improve lifestyle changes regarding food/nutrition, sleep, movement (including appropriate sensory input to meet sensory needs) and nutrient therapy as needed.
3) NEURODEVELOPMENT – following an assessment of neurodevelopment movements, specific exercises will be provided to reorganize the nervous system pathways. Neurodevelopment is defined as how the brain and nervous system developed through movement, sensory experiences and interactions with the environment during infancy and early childhood. If there are gaps in this area, a child will have difficulty with motor skills, self-regulation and body awareness.
4) BIOCHEMISTRY – if requested, your child’s biochemistry can be assessed with lab tests to determine any imbalances that are contributing to your child’s behavior and symptoms noted. These labs include three common biochemical imbalances associated with stress and trauma, mineral assessment with a Hair Tissue & Mineral Analysis panel and additional labs as may be needed.
5) THERAPEUTIC LISTENING – Therapeutic listening uses electronically modified music to stimulate organization of the nervous system pathways. Research has identified gains in the areas of improved attention, enhanced interaction with peers, increased ability to attend to tasks and follow directions, sensory integration, improved sleep, less anxiety, and improved communication skills.
6) PARENT PROGRAM – as the parent, you also need to have a healthy and resilient nervous system, be able to manage stress without remaining in the activated or freeze/overwhelm states and be able to use tools and strategies to return your nervous system to the calm and regulated state. It is just a fact that your child will not be able to maintain a regulated and resilient nervous system if his/her parents are not regulated. Children can only co-regulate when their caregivers are calm and regulated themselves! This may involve individual sessions to uncover reasons for your triggers, how to increase your ability to manage stress, how to heal some childhood wounds, etc. as these all determine the resiliency of your nervous system.
